Text: 1 Kings 3:9
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
MESSAGE
A wise man is a discerning man and vice versa. Solomon was no fool when he asked for wisdom in all his asking from God. With wisdom came riches and wealth and fame.
Jesus said, “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4-5). The only way to overcome deception is through wisdom and discernment, which are only from the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 4:7 says Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.
Discernment is very important; it helps us distinguish between right and wrong, and between truth, deception and counterfeit spirituality. Counterfeit spirituality is something we need to look out for in ourselves first, before judging others. Ungratefulness, lack of submission to leadership and authority, strife, jealously, envy and greed have no place in God’s kingdom. They just deceive and take us away from God.
We need the Holy Spirit, from whom comes divine wisdom and understanding to fight this. The gift of discernment and wisdom will help us overcome and know ‘the real truth’. Both, wisdom and discernment, are gifts of the Holy Spirit and are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:8 and 10. The use of these gifts along with the other seven will help us in our ministry of ‘Evangelism’ and ‘Reaching Out’ to people, to show the world that Jesus is Lord.
PRAYER
Lord in all my asking, I ask for wisdom and discernment this day, to walk this earth in Christ-likeness and finish my race well. To have a discerning heart at all times, to be able to tell between truth and deception always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
PRAYER FOR SALVATION:
Lord have mercy upon me and let the love of God and mercy of God speak for me in Jesus name. Let the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ speak for me, let the love of God intervene for me and God, let the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with me now and for ever. Amen. 🙏
