Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
MESSAGE
When my little sister was a toddler, she often used numbers to measure her love for us. If we were good to her, she’d say, “I love you 100 or 1000.” The moment we didn’t allow her to do something or if she was disciplined, she’d immediately change the love meter to say, “I love you only 1 or 2!”
Very often, we tend to view God’s love for us on that meter. We think that God’s love varies based on our actions. While that may be true of us when it comes to our interpersonal human relationships, God’s ways are completely different.
Scripture tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8) and that love keeps no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5). If God doesn’t keep a record of our wrongs, then there is no chance that His love varies based on our actions.
Romans 5:8 says that God loved us as sinners. Thus, He sent His Son Jesus to save us. He loved us before we could ever love Him or do anything to please Him. So even though we may have made a thousand and one mistakes, God’s love stays the same. In fact, it supersedes them all.
Jesus showed us this love in His relationship with Peter. Peter may have failed Jesus by denying Him three times. Yet Jesus’ love for him stayed constant when He restored Peter to Him and made him a mighty apostle, who went on to impact many. As much as Peter failed, Jesus only loved him that much more.
We too may fail a great number of times. But remember, God’s love is constant and never decreases. His love meter stays the same through it all!
PRAYER
Thank You God for Your love that is everlasting and does not depend on me at all. I receive Your love. Help me to be just like You. Amen.
PRAYER FOR SALVATION:
Lord have mercy upon me and let the love of God and mercy of God speak for me in Jesus name. Let the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ speak for me, let the love of God intervene for me and God, let the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with me now and for ever. Amen.
